Training Course FAQ’s

Thinking of training with Cosmetologists? Our commonly asked pre-training questions are below:

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakouts and men with heavy facial hair. If your client has active acne there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. This is, however, a great treatment for pregnant/nursing clients who want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

A common myth – this is not possible! The soft, fine vellus hair will grow back slowly exactly the same as it was – usually in about 3-6 weeks.

(There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies: Vellus hair is the thin, fine, soft “peach fuzz” that typically covers the entire body. Terminal hair is the coarse hair that grows on the head, face in men, underarms, legs and pubic areas.)

Dermaplaning, waxing, tweezing or any other depilatory form of hair removal cannot alter the type of hair grown in any given area.

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. All of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment and you will not peel or visibly shed skin after your service, while Peels can result in dramatic peeling in the days following a service. Dermaplaning provides a good alternative to peels for those who desire professional grade exfoliation without the potential social downtime.

We are the NZ distributor for DermaplanePro and use their training methods and products for all our dermaplaning classes. No other dermaplaning training provider in New Zealand offers an international dermaplaning-specific certification!

DermaplanePro is the leader in dermaplaning certification classes, tools, supplies and support in the United States and around the world. Students who receive their Certification in Dermaplaning from DermaplanePro are further advanced in knowledge and technique as they complete a two tiered course that focuses a full day on hands-on experience.

DermaplanePro was founded in Arizona by Rikki Kusy. Renowned for her training, Rikki believes learning is experiential as well as didactic. She created the course to be interesting, student involved, and provide a gradual learning approach for greater retention.

We work with the finest surgical grade blades and medical grade products. As leaders in the field and always researching, DermaplanePro assures clients that they are receiving the highest quality education, tools, skin care products and supplies available.

Dermaplaning, sometimes called epidermal levelling, is a safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) of the face.

Dermaplaning is a great add-on treatment to work in with your existing facial menu to offer clients instant, visible results without downtime. A controlled method of exfoliation, removing both vellus hair and dead skin, is a non-invasive treatment suitable for most skin types.

That depends on your market so there is no one-price-fits-all answer. Think of it this way: Clients love the treatment so your rebooking rate will increase since they’ll need dermaplaning every 4 weeks. Also, your cost per treatment is low.
The Deluxe ProStart Kit has enough supplies for 25 treatments. At $95 per treatment, your revenue will be $2,375. Your investment is only $425 to complete your training and get your Certificate. When you reorder blades they are only about $2 each and sold in packages of 25, 50 or 100 making this a very affordable treatment without a lot of expensive inventory.

Taking a Certification Course is the best way to learn and with time, master dermaplaning. You can’t learn from just watching a video or having a friend show you how she does it. There’s a lot more to it than that. We have developed a two-part training program that provides everything you need to be successful in a very short time, including supplies, forms, protocols, combination treatments, etc.

We have a training location in Auckland and also regularly hold classes in Christchurch and the lower North Island. Can’t travel? We also have online training available.

Internationally, DermaplanePro classes are also available in the USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and South Africa.

Dermal Needling

Microneedling offers many benefits for skin care professionals looking to include additional, results-driven (and also profitable) services for their clients.

Microneedling – often referred to as dermal needling or collagen induction therapy (CIT) – is a well-established technology with proven results which is a minimally invasive procedure utilising a handheld device which creates a controlled puncturing of the upper layers of the skin with micro-fine needles.

Microneedling is a versatile treatment and treats a multitude of different skin conditions and concerns. Treating everything from wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and dull skin to issues such as scars, stretch marks, and cellulite (although results depend on many factors) and even hair loss! One of the most marked improvements seen is an improvement in the overall look and quality of the skin.

Our courses are designed by experienced beauty professionals/trainers for beauty professionals. With years of industry experience, our materials are crafted to be relevant in 2021 – not 2001! We regularly review and refine our courses. Our training manuals and methods have been written from the ground up.

Our trainer comes with over 27 years of industry experience as both a beauty therapist, educator and brand rep. With 10+ years of hands-on practical knowledge of dermal needling, she is an industry expert and developer of new techniques and advanced treatment protocols and can advise you on innovative ways to offer this service in your business. Furthermore, we work with doctors and professionals from around the world. Our techniques and training are reviewed regularly to meet the highest standards.

The procedure itself isn’t overly painful. The most common side effects of microneedling are skin redness and irritation. During the treatment itself, the application of a topical numbing cream generally negates any discomfort the client may feel. (We note that some out there don’t use numbing cream at all in their practices!)

Dermal needling stimulates collagen and elastin production and makes a lasting difference on any skin type of any age as the therapist can adjust the treatment to the individual skin. Results can never be guaranteed, so it is important to manage client expectations.
